To save space and eliminate endless menu scrolling, we’ve divided songwriters by era:
Songwriters of the Classic Era — This includes the pioneers, classic Broadway and Hollywood composers and lyricists, and others identified as part of the Great American Songbook. This generally includes songwriters active 1910 -1960.
Songwriters of the Modern Era — Includes pop, top 40, and current era composers and lyricists, those who might be identified with television, rock and roll, and modern theater. This generally includes songwriters active 1960 – present.
Many songwriters transcend both eras. It is the editors’ intention to place these in whichever category best applies to their respective careers.
